How we measure this site

We count visits to this website, and to the public pages of Audacia Training and Otis, so that we know how many people reach us and which of our campaign links brought them. We do it on our own server, with no analytics company involved, and in a way that does not need a cookie banner. This page sets out exactly what that means.

What is recorded

  • The address of the page you open. From its query string we keep only campaign labels (the utm_ parameters on links we publish) and drop everything else before it leaves your browser.
  • The page title, and the website that linked you here, without its query string.
  • Your browser, operating system, type of device, screen size and language.
  • Your country, region and city, worked out from your IP address at the moment of the visit.

What is not recorded

  • Your IP address. It is used for the country lookup and then discarded; there is nowhere in the database to keep it.
  • Any cookie or identifier on your device. Nothing is written to your device at all.
  • Anything you type, and anything inside an account on one of our products. On Training and Otis only the public pages are counted; checkout, password reset and account pages send nothing.

Visits on different days are not linked

Visits on the same day are grouped by a code made from the website, your IP address, your browser and a secret that changes every day. When the secret changes, the code does too, so we cannot tell that a visit today and a visit tomorrow came from the same person. We count some returning visitors twice as a result, and accept that.

Where it is kept, and for how long

On Audacia's own server, in a Hostinger data centre outside Mauritius, using the open-source tool Umami. No one else receives it. Records of individual visits are deleted after 13 months, and backups of them are kept on the same server for no more than a week.

Why we may do this

Under the Data Protection Act 2017 we rely on our legitimate interest in knowing which of our campaigns reach people, so that we spend on what works. We think that interest is fairly balanced against yours because nothing is stored on your device, you cannot be recognised from one day to the next, and you can switch it off.

How to switch it off

Turn on “Do Not Track” in your browser settings and nothing is sent. Blocking the script works too: we use its ordinary name and do not try to get around blockers.

One thing this does not cover

This website loads its typeface from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for it and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. That is separate from the visit counting described here, and we mention it so that this page is complete.
